Aside from the picturesque beaches, there is FAR more to Mauritius. Mauritius is the safest and happiest country in Africa. It is politically stable and one of the most successful and developed economies in Africa. Living costs in Mauritius are also much cheaper than the UK, and you can expect to pay around £500 p/month to live, which includes accomodation.

There are also a huge number of companies, large and small, who take students on 3-6 month work placements. Another plus is that you do not need to go through the extremely competitive process of sourcing a placement like in the UK.
Why Mauritius?
If you look beyond the beaches and lucious forests, there is a thriving economy

Booming economy
Mauritius is home to thousands of companies, from global banks and consultancies, to major regional and national conglomerates, and many successful local companies.
The economic hubs are Port Louis and Ebene, although there are a number of large towns and cities around the island.

Lifestyle
Yes, it can be expensive to travel from the UK to Mauritius, but the cost of living is far cheaper than the UK. It has the shops, restraurants, amenities, state of the art facilities, beaches, mountains, and plenty of cultural points of interest.
The only thing it doesn't have is the cold weather!

Culture
Mauritius is a multicultural country where many religions are celebrated. There are festivals and celebrations year-round. People are largely friendly and chatty, and there is a huge interest in British culture (music, film, sporting).
The local language is Mauritian Creole, but English and French are widely spoken. There is the perfect opportunity to learn a new language.
